Transatlantic – The Whirlwind
This is what people talk about, when they mention the term „supergroup“. Neal Morse (formerly of Spock’s Beard fame), Roine Stolt (Flower Kings and all over the place), Peter Trewavas (Marillion) and Mike Portnoy (Sons Of Apollo, co-founder of Dream Theater) got together as „Transatlantic“ to form an alliance. Whirlwind is their third outing (there have been four studio albums so far…) and it shows nicely the respective talents of all band members. This is one big one hour suite/song, a progressive masterpiece that touches everything from jazz to metal, classic to anything the heart desires. This is what progressive rock was made for.
